The Governor of Warrap State, H.E. Lt. Gen. Francis Marial Abur, delivered a comprehensive address at the 8th Governors’ Forum in Juba, highlighting the progress, challenges, and future priorities of his administration.
In his speech, Governor Marial emphasized his government’s efforts in promoting peace and development, citing initiatives such as village-to-village peace dialogues, intra- and inter-state reconciliation, road repairs, and the launch of key development projects.
However, he acknowledged the severe challenges facing Warrap State, including devastating floods and recurring tribal conflicts, which have resulted in widespread hunger and the displacement of thousands. The Governor also highlighted the increasing influx of returnees and refugees from Sudan, which has exacerbated shortages of food, shelter, and medical supplies, creating a dire humanitarian crisis.
“These challenges have created a humanitarian crisis that continues to affect thousands of people in Warrap State,” Governor Marial said, stressing the urgent need for support to address these issues.
Outlining his vision for sustainable development, the Governor called for the promotion of local agricultural initiatives to strengthen food security and the economy. “Supporting small-scale farming will empower local farmers and provide a steady food source for our communities,” he stated.
Governor Marial also underscored the importance of entrepreneurship and vocational training to create jobs and build a skilled workforce. Additionally, he stressed the need for better infrastructure, including roads and telecommunications, to enhance security and foster interconnectivity.
The Governor proposed the construction of vital roads to connect Warrap, Unity, and Lakes States, particularly in areas prone to crime due to limited access. Recognizing the state’s vast cattle resources, he advocated for transforming livestock into productive economic assets rather than solely cultural symbols of pride or marriage.
In his closing remarks, Governor Marial appealed to the National Government, humanitarian partners, and the people of Warrap State for collective support to overcome challenges and achieve lasting peace and sustainable development. “With unity and collaboration, we can build a brighter future for Warrap State,” he concluded.
“These challenges have created a humanitarian crisis that continues to affect thousands of people in Warrap State,”
