Friday, 7th February, 2025 – Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal State
The Governor of Warrap State, H.E. Gen. Francis Marial Abur, paid a courtesy visit to Western Bahr El Ghazal State’s capital, Wau, on Friday. During his visit, he met with the Governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal State, H.E. Emmanuel Primo Ukello, to discuss critical matters regarding security and cross-border relations between the two states.
The main focus of the meeting was the joint coordination of border security and addressing recent security incidents. The Governors specifically discussed an unfortunate event that took place on the night of 5th February, 2025, when suspected armed criminals from Western Bahr El Ghazal launched an attack on civilians in Wun-Tim village, located in Gogrial East County. The attack resulted in the deaths of three civilians and left three others injured.
To prevent future incidents and enhance safety along their borders, both Governors agreed on the necessity of joint border security efforts between the two states. They emphasized the importance of ensuring the safe and free movement of both civilians and goods along the major roads connecting Wau, Tonj South, and Tonj North counties. These areas had been impacted by previous clashes between security forces and suspected IO forces at the Ngap Bridge checkpoint in Wau, which also disrupted the peace in the region.
The visit was accompanied by key officials, including Hon. Elia Mawien Atek, the State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies, Hon. James Ayiek Bath, the State Minister of Information and Communication Services, and heads of security forces from both states.
Both Governors expressed their commitment to strengthening their cooperation for the betterment of the two states and the safety of their citizens.
