Juba, 20th February 2025 – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for an immediate end to the ongoing inter-communal conflicts in Warrap State and Abyei Administrative Area. The President made this appeal while officiating the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Governor of Warrap State, General Magok Magok Deng, and the Chief Administrator of Abyei Administrative Area, Charles Abyei Jok, in Juba on Thursday.
In his address, President Kiir urged community leaders, particularly those residing in Juba, to avoid instigating violence in their home areas. He emphasized the need for the new leadership to collaborate in restoring the rule of law and fostering peaceful co-existence among communities.
The Chief of Defense Forces, General Paul Nang Majok, described the conflict in Warrap as a major challenge to national security, referring to it as a “pandemic” within the military. He announced that the army is prepared to intervene by disarming youth involved in the unrest, with the ultimate goal of restoring peace and stability.
Governor Magok Magok Deng and Administrator Charles Abyei Jok reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring peace and stability in their respective areas. They pledged to return home and engage stakeholders in a collective effort to promote reconciliation and unity among communities.
The leadership of Warrap State urges all citizens to support these peace initiatives and work together towards a more secure and harmonious society.
